About

Biology taught in science classes is as far as can be from the way research in Biology we do in research labs. The unfortunate outcome is students are largely unaware of how science is done, unaware of the discovery process that yields the textbook knowledge they commit to memory!

To bridge this gap, M C Arunan, along with his colleague G Nagarjuna (both at Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education, Mumbai) started a program called Collaborative Undergraduate Biology Education (CUBE) about three years ago. Participating in this program, students and educators get a first-hand flavor of research; which makes up an active component of their Biology classroom.

In this interactive workshop, Arunan will talk about CUBE, and how the program has evolved since conception. Participants will also do exercises aimed at bridging the gap, and bring in the process of how biology is done into biology teaching.

The workshop will be held on October 3rd, from 10:30 — 1pm at Raspuri (in NCBS)
